Cases
Due

These
are
just a few representative cases handled by R. Bruce Tharpe in his 21
years of practice:
-
A family whose husband/father was killed in
a rollover accident
after one of the tires on his pickup truck detreaded was represented by
R. Bruce Tharpe in a
products
liability case against the tire manufacturer. The case was
settled for a large six-figure amount.
-
A family whose daughter was killed after she
was involved in a rear-end
collision and ejected through the rear window of the
vehicle retained R. Bruce
Tharpe to represent them in a products liability case against the
vehicle manufacturer. After presenting
substantial evidence that the seatback and seatbelt were defectively
designed
and manufactured, the vehicle manufacturer settled the case for a large
six-figure amount.
-
A man was killed at the Port of Brownsville
while working
as a longshoreman when a piece of heavy equipment he was
unloading fell and crushed him. His
daughter retained R. Bruce
Tharpe, who obtained a large six-figure settlement for her.
-
When a longshoreman working on an oil
platform in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico, had a heart attack
and his employer’s
failure to seek timely medical treatment for him resulted in
an aggravation of
his heart condition, he hired R. Bruce Tharpe, who obtained a very
substantial settlement for him and his family.
-
When a man was arrested at an International
Bridge for a minor
federal law violation, U.S. Immigration authorities tried to strip the
man of
his Legal Permanent Resident status and deport him to
Mexico. R. Bruce Tharpe not only got the immigration
case transferred from
Atlanta, Georgia, to South
Texas, but also successfully canceled all deportation
efforts against the man, who is still living
happily in the U.S. with his family.
-
A young lady was arrested at an International
Port of Entry
on a minor federal offense and her car was seized by the U.S.
government. After she retained the Tharpe Law Office, all
federal
charges against her were dismissed and the government returned her car!
-
A young man was recently wrongfully
accused
of assault on three separate occasions. After retaining R. Bruce
Tharpe, all three cases were dismissed!
-
A gentleman client was arrested for DWI on two
separate occasions and falsely
accused
of Impersonating a Police Office. R. Bruce Tharpe represented
the
man and got one DWI charge dismissed after a Jury
Trial resulted
in an
acquittal and the second DWI charge dismissed after a successful Motion
to Suppress was granted. Subsequently, the
Impersonating a
Police
Officer charge was dismissed as well, before it ever got to court.
-
A young man was arrested for Possession of Marijuana
when the
police
pulled over a vehicle in which he was a passenger and found
marijuana in
the vehicle. R. Bruce Tharpe got all charges against his client
dismissed after he proved that
marijuana found in the vehicle belonged to someone else, not
his client!
-
A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and
then
charged with Possession of Cocaine. After he arrived at the police
station,
drugs were found in the backseat of the police car. Then, the
police seized over $4,000 in cash, alleging
that the man was a drug dealer. After a trial
with R. Bruce Tharpe
as defense
counsel, the man was found innocent and all of his money was
returned!
-
A man was charged with Sexual
Assault. After he hired R. Bruce Tharpe to represent him, compelling
evidence was presented which resulted in the D.A.'s Office
dismissing all charges!
-
A young man was recently charged in federal
court with Conspiracy to Transport and Harbor Illegal
Aliens. After R. Bruce Tharpe represented him at a preliminary
hearing
and questioned the federal agents who arrested the man, it was
determined that there was
insufficient evidence and no probable cause to support the federal
charges and
the man was ordered released after only one day in custody!
-
Charges against a young man arrested for Possession
of Marijuana were dismissed after his defense attorney, R. Bruce
Tharpe, successfully argued a Motion to Suppress
the Evidence, arguing that the marijuana was discovered after an illegal search
by the police had violated his client’s rights. The court
agreed and all charges were dismissed!
-
R.
Bruce Tharpe currently represents the family of a 17-year-old
boy who was shot and killed by officers after a police
chase. The boy had attempted to steal a car, which
was his first offense, and did not have a weapon.
The Brownsville Police
and
U.S. Customs ended the chase at a U.S. bridge, where they opened fire
and ended
the boy’s life. A lawsuit is currently pending for use of excessive
force.
