Barry Windham Cuts Off the Leg of My Brand-New Jeans!

Another rite of passage for young guys in wrestling is being ribbed by the ones who have come before you. The wrestlers pulling the ribs were once young wrestlers themselves, and had been on the receiving end of ribs.

So when a newer rookie made his way into the business, it was now their turn!

When I started refereeing in Florida in 1993, it was my turn: feeling pretty good as the new referee in the Florida territory, traveling on the road full-time with the boys, and now being "one of the boys," as opposed to an outsider.

I bought myself some pretty cool clothes to wear on the road - expensive shirt, nice cowboy boots, Calvin Klein jeans.

I remember my first night refereeing: I got back to the dressing room, took my shower, and started to put on my new clothes. 

I pulled on my brand-new jeans; one leg had been cut off above the knee!

My brand-new jeans! And this is what I was supposed to wear home!  

I just took a pair of scissors and cut off the other leg, making myself a pair of cut-off shorts!

Wonder why Barry Windham was sitting there, laughing? 

I know it was you, Barry!
